New Tempstar® 96 Percent Plus AFUE Gas Furnaces Feature Models with
Stainless Steel Primary and Secondary Heat Exchangers

LEWISBURG, Tenn., Nov. 28, 2011 – International Comfort Products, LLC (ICP) unveils a versatile new line of smaller, lighter Tempstar® SmartComfort® 96 percent plus AFUE gas furnaces with models featuring stainless steel primary and secondary heat exchangers.

ICP designed this new line of furnaces after conducting numerous focus groups with dealers across North America. ICP General Manager J.T. Holtschlag said, “We applied the dealers’ feedback during the design process and created a new line of 96 percent plus furnaces that are quieter and easier to install and service.”

New 96 Percent Plus Gas FurnaceThese new Tempstar 96 percent plus furnaces are available in four product families:

          • SmartComfort® VC 97 – Features modulating gas valve, variable-speed ECM blower motor, 97 percent AFUE, and stainless steel primary and secondary heat exchangers.
          • SmartComfort VT 96 – Two-stage variable-speed model at 96 percent AFUE with a variable-speed high-efficiency ECM blower, and stainless steel primary and secondary heat exchangers.
          • SmartComfort IIX 96 – Two-stage, 96 percent AFUE model featuring high-efficiency Xtra SEER* ECM blower.
          • SmartComfort DLX 96 – Single-stage Xtra SEER* model achieves 96 percent AFUE.

The Tempstar 96 percent plus gas furnaces are designed with features that make them:

        • Quieter – These new furnaces feature a sealed blower compartment, and insulated heat exchanger and blower compartments to muffle sound and absorb vibration noise.
        • Easier to Install – These furnaces are only 35 inches tall for easier installation in tight places. They feature a rotating inducer elbow for easy set-up. The four-way multi-position design includes downflow installation with pipes routed inside the cabinet. A new condensate trap stays inside the furnace in all positions. Cabinet and door edges are folded and hemmed for easier handling.
        • Easier to Service – These new gas furnaces feature large, one-quarter turn knobs for easy door installation and removal. A redesigned sight glass and a super-bright LED makes diagnostic flash codes easier to read. The blower assembly is mounted on rails for easy, upfront installation and removal.
        • Energy Efficient – These new Tempstar furnaces feature Xtra SEER*  blower motors to help homeowners cut electricity use all year long. They are available in heating capacities from 40 to 120 MBtuh and cooling capacities from one-and-a-half up to five tons. Each of these Tempstar furnaces meets low NOx emissions standards.

Tempstar Maximum Strength Warranties cover the new 96 percent plus gas furnaces with a 10-year limited warranty on parts,  a lifetime limited warranty on the heat exchanger, and up to 10 years of No Hassle Replacement™ limited warranty on SmartComfort models. Limited warranties on parts and heat exchangers apply to original owner when installed in an owner-occupied single family residence and properly registered within 90 days after original installation. Limited warranty period is five years for parts and 20 years for the heat exchanger if not registered within 90 days of installation. Original owner in jurisdictions where warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will receive the registered limited warranty periods. The No Hassle Replacement limited warranty provides a new equivalent replacement unit should the heat exchanger fail during the No Hassle Replacement period (with a labor allowance for the dealer). Restrictions apply. Contact your local Tempstar distributor for details.

*Xtra SEER – high-efficiency ECM blower can deliver an increase in cooling efficiency that can translate to a higher SEER rating when paired with select Tempstar condensing units and evaporator coils as compared to the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute’s coil-only rating.
